Our Story
Why F.I.T. to Fight?
Almost two years ago, a friend of mine, Elka Klein, died from ovarian cancer. Then, about a year later, another friend, Sima Goldfard, also died from the same disease. I thought, that is a tragic coincidence! As I found out, ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological cancer because it goes undetected. Women don’t know enough to catch it early.
2007 marked my 40th birthday. Many people lament about getting older, but I find it a blessing. My two friends never made it to 40. Inspired by their lives and deaths, I decided to raise money to create awareness so others can have a fighting chance. New research is indicating that improved physical condition can help women fight ovarian cancer. As a personal trainer, an exercise class seemed to be the most effective way to increase awareness about ovarian cancer and promote women’s health.
Funds raised with be distributed among 3 local agencies: Barrett Cancer Center at the University of Cincinnati, Cancer Family Cares, and our local NOCC chapter (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition). A significant portion of the funds will be used for a public awareness campaign to educate women about ovarian cancer.
