Warren County Convention and Visitors BureauLast year, over 25,000 women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In that same year, another 15,000 lost their lives. Ovarian Cancer is the deadliest gynecological cancer, due in large to the fact that many people just don't know enough about it. That is why BeExtraordinary.org has decided to team up with Fit to Fight in order to not only raise money, but also raise awareness about this disease and the effect it can have on a woman's life.
BeExtraordinary.org is an online fund raising and promotion site that asks people ‘what will you do to raise money for your favorite nonprofit?’ In the past, individuals have raised thousands of dollars by doing things as wacky as growing a mustache, as crazy as jumping into a frozen Lake Michigan, and as worthwhile as spending a week doing service projects in a third world country. By participating in Fight to Fight you have already committed yourself to what we like to call, "A Challenge for Charity." You have agreed to run in this triathalon so that you can raise money and support for this noble cause.
As you will notice on the site, our fundraising page is very much like a fill in the blank exercise. "I will _________ if $_________ is raised for__________. While each of you will be participating in the event, we know that your motivations and reasons will all be different. So instead of telling us, "I will... Run in the Fit to Fight Triathlon", we want you to tell us why you're running in the Fit to Fight Triathalon. For instance, you could write I will..."make sure that I stay healthy as I enter my forties." or I will..."Not let the memory of my mother be forgotten." One of the primary goals of Fit to Fight is to educate women about Ovarian Cancer. These personal statements will be instrumental in communicating to others how Ovarian Cancer has affected the lives of real people.
In addition to using your I will... statements in Fit to Fight's public awareness campaign; We will be rewarding some of the more popular ones with an assortment of gifts from our sponsors ( we can expand this section when we have a better idea of what rewards we can give out).
Thank you very much for supporting this important cause and we look forward to learning more about why you're getting involved!
Registering your fundraising page is just a few quick steps. You must first register a profile and then register a challenge (our word for fundraising page). In case you have any trouble we have listed out very detailed steps below.
1.Click the “Start Your Fundraiser” button at the top of this page. If you can’t finish the registration now, don’t worry, you’ll be able to come back when you’re ready.
2.Fill out the form on our site, all of the information on this page is required for you to join. When you are finished click the next step button
3.The next page is mostly optional information for your profile. Take a few seconds to fill this out as your donors will see your profile when they visit your fundraising page. When finished you will be asked to open your e-mail box and confirm your profile. Once you do so, your profile is set up!
4.When you are ready to start fundraising, log into your account and click the “Start a New Challenge” button. You will be brought to a new screen where you must fill out a form for your fundraiser. The required fields are as follows
a. Title - What do you want to name your fundraiser
b. I will - This is the personal statement we talked about above. Tell us what your pledge is so we can show the world how we’re all dealing with Ovarian Cancer
c. For - This is the charity. Type in Fit to Fight. As you start to type a menu will appear below, make sure you click on Fit to Fight
d. If I can raise - This is the amount of money you are trying to raise. Remember, if you don’t reach that goal you may still participate. It is just a good way to inform donors of your progress and expectations
e. By - This is when you’re fundraising will end. We recommend a few days before Fit to Fight but you will be allowed to fundraise up until the event
f. I will prove.... This is the date that you will post pictures and videos online so your donors can see how the event went. If you don’t plan on uploading any multimedia that is fine, just a pick a date after the end of your fundraiser.
g. This is how I’ll prove it - Click whichever you form of media you intend on producing. Again, if you don’t plan on posting any proof than this does not matter and you can click either
h.Proof Info - Once again this is of little consequence unless you’d like to share your photos and videos with us. In which case, you would give a brief explanation as to what types of photos and videos you’ll be sharing
i. Tags - These are words and phrases that people can use to search our database to find your page (i.e. Fit to Fight, Ovarian Cancer, Triathalon).
j. This is your box... - This is self explanatory, include any extra information you want
k. Photo/Video - Your fundraising page will need a photo or video to personalize it. Pick which you would like to display and then click the choose file button to upload it from your computer.
5. After you submit and verify the form you are ready to start fundraising! Send it out to anyone and everyone through email, facebook, or whatever you’re comfortable with. If you’d like us to give you some excellent tips feel free to send an email to Matt@BeExtraordinary.org
Good Luck Everyone!
