The Story Behind Fit to Fight Ovarian Cancer

Why Fit to Fight?
Almost two years ago, a friend of mine, Elka Klein, died from ovarian cancer. Then, about a year later, another friend, Sima Goldfard, also died from the same disease. I thought, that is a tragic coincidence! As I found out, ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological cancer because it goes undetected. Women don’t know enough to catch it early.

2007 marked my 40th birthday. Many people lament about getting older, but I found it to be a blessing that year. My two friends never made it to 40. Inspired by their lives and deaths, I decided to raise money to create awareness so others can have a fighting chance. New research is indicating that improved physical condition can help women fight ovarian cancer. As a personal trainer, an exercise class seemed to be the most effective way to increase awareness about ovarian cancer and promote women’s health.  In 2008 we collaborated with Warren County Convention and Visitor's Bureau and HFP Racing to bring a unique triathlon to the Cincinnati area for all ages and abilities.

Funds raised with be distributed among local agencies: The Barrett Cancer Center at the University of Cincinnati and our local NOCC chapter (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition). A significant portion of the funds will be used for a public awareness campaign to educate women about ovarian cancer.

Thank you for supporting our fight to get the word out about ovarian cancer.  Its time to "Break the Silence!".
